This is a Big Deal

Our annual Roast Beef Dinner and Auction is on Friday October 5. This is a fund raising event that has been a tradition here at United Church for decades. All proceeds from the event go to fight hunger- at the local, national and international levels.

So, what should you expect from the evening? First, you can get a tasty roast beef dinner for a fair price. Second, you will have a chance to bid on silent auction items such as gift baskets of all types. And thirdly, homemade pies, and breads and salsas will be available to bid on at a live auction.

But most of all, you will experience friendship and fellowship, and share in the knowledge that, through sharing our abundance at this event, we are also able to share our bounty with the world in an effective and meaningful way.

What’s your mindset?

Dear Friends~

I was reading an article by Trent Hamm who talked about the attitude of abundance versus scarcity. Here’s what he had to say:

“There is a HUGE difference between an abundance mindset vs. scarcity mindset. The path that your life takes depends, in part, on the mindset that you adopt. You can choose to either view the world as abundant or scarce, but they cannot co-exist.” It’s the same in churches.

The abundance mindset flows out of a deep inner sense of personal worth and security. It is the concept that is grounded in the belief that ‘there is more than enough’ for everyone. Alternatively, a scarcity mindset is the belief that there will never be enough, resulting in feelings of fear, stress, and anxiety.

October is the season churches kick off the Stewardship campaign in order to develop budgets for the coming year. I would like to challenge us at United to go about our pledge drive this year with an Abundance Mentality. Let’s take a leap of faith and head into 2019 with our focus being one of far-sightedness and generosity. We are all in this ministry together, so let us prayerfully consider where God is guiding us! This is going to be quite a wonderful adventure.

Peace;

Pastor Paula
