Did you know…..?

Did you know?……that on this Pentecost Sunday in 1738, an ill and morose Charles Wesley lay in a bed, praying to Jesus to keep his promise to send a comforter. He heard a voice saying “…arise, and believe, and thou shalt be healed of all thine infirmities….” He believed forever after that that was the day he received the Holy Spirit. It is said that he wrote this hymn to honor that day:

“Oh, for a thousand tongues to sing

My great Redeemer’s praise;

The glories of my God and king

The glories of my God and king

The triumphs of his grace.”

A Music-Filled Service

Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth, burst into jubilant song with music; ……”

Psalm 98:4

Yes, we will do so, this Sunday, May 6. 10:30 a.m.

What’s for supper?

Here at United Church, we are proud of our tradition of holding a free community supper on the third Friday of every month. We strongly believe that this is a meaningful and important service to our community. And we think that our town is feeling that way, too.

How is this for evidence? I just took a phone call here at the church. The caller asked if we know what is on the menu for the Third Friday Community Supper. In June.

While I couldn’t answer that question, I can state with complete confidence that if you join us this month, on May 18, you will be served chicken pot pie, fruit, cake and ice cream and a beverage.

Dinner is served from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m., Friday, May 18. See you there!
